Engagement Session Fun at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens

We were delighted when Irene and Travis chose us to take their engagement portraits. They were hell bent on having the photo taken at the Botanical Gardens, and we were hell bent on making that happen for them.

Their first date was at the gardens. Following their visit to the gardens they ate at the restaurant on the grounds. They had to wait two hours, because they hadn't made reservations in advance. Waiting for the table just gave them the chance to get to know each other better.

You can see in these photos that spending a little extra time together paid off well for both of them.

Wedding Album Design: Dekalb History Center Wedding

If you've read my blog for a while, then you know that I love designing albums. The story of a wedding comes to life in a well-designed album.

After a wedding is over, we edit and tone all the best photos, usually about 500 or so, and then we design an album using the best of the best.

We create the first draft of the album and show it off in a Premier Party. We bring wine and cheese or ice cream or some other fun munchie, to the couple's home, along with our computer. Then we set things up so we can show off the album design on TV.

After we show off the first draft at the Premier Party, we upload it to Album Exposure, a web site designed to make it easy to share comments about the album design. At that point, couples have a chance to let us know what, if any, changes they would like to make.

Corporate Head Shots for Meredith

The more head shots I take, the more I realize just how much goes into a good head shot.

Here are three favorites from a recent head shot session.

Meredith came to me looking for a professional head shot for her LinkedIn profile. She decided to go with the far right photo below. 

After reviewing the images from the session, she chose that as her favorite, writing to me: "That photo is really what I wanted in terms of a professional headshot for Linkedin, etc."

Meredith decided she wanted two photos from the session, because her Mom LOVED the photo at left.

My favorite is in the middle. :)

Mardi Gras Portraits in Pine Lake

So here's yet another blogpost about how much I love Pine Lake.

This morning, instead of the usual first Saturday pancake breakfast, Pine Lakers celebrated Mardi Gras with a brunch, complete with beignets, red beans and rice, and bread pudding with wine sauce.

Following the brunch, one adorable dog, children on bikes and children walking, dressed-up adults and a rainbow paraded around our lake. 

Before and after the parade, I took portraits of anyone willing to stand on a specific crack in the sidewalk.

Pet Portrait of Our Amazing Dog Roux

Like most pet owners, I think my dog is the most amazing dog, ever.

So almost every time I set up my home studio for a head shot session, I convince Roux to pose for me. He sits up on the piano stool like a big dog and puts up with the camera and flash, provided he has been assured that a treat awaits.

And ... really, my dog is the best ever!

Look close and you can see tiny drops of drool at the corners of his mouth.

Dekalb History Center Wedding for Melanie and Jeremy

Wedding Day Priorities

One thing I've learned from being a wedding photographer is that wedding day priorities differ from couple to couple. Melanie and Jeremy's priority was to have fun day with friends and family. They were especially excited to see their children enjoying themselves as a part of their new blended family.

I learned from Jeremy's brother Robert, during his reception toast, that Melanie and Jeremy's children had orchestrated the blending of the families by playing matchmakers early on in their relationship.

Their wedding day went off just as planned. As you can see from the photos, the newlyweds and their three children all had a blast at the wedding and reception. Friends and family did, too.

Four Seasons Host the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce

The folks at the Four Seasons pulled out all the stops, including my favorite--frozen s'mores--for the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce membership drive.

Documentary Photo Project about the Gwinnett Heat

The Gwinnett Heat basketball team rocks. Last year they advanced to the 2016 wheelchair basketball Georgia state championship game. This year they hope to bring home the first place trophy.

The team practices once a week at Hull Middle School in Duluth.
