Laughing at the altar at Northside UMC

Minister makes bride and groom laugh

Here's the second in our series of couples' favorite photos.

Taylor and John Pafford chose this photograph taken by Sharon McMahon. Sharon was hiding in a side door behind the altar at Northside United Methodist Church when she saw and snapped this fun moment.

Here's Taylor's explanation of why she and John chose this photo as their favorite.

This is our favorite wedding photo because it captures a genuinely funny moment towards the end of the ceremony. Following our vows, exchanging of the rings, and communion, Dr. Gil (our officiant) spoke to us privately, so that the congregation could not hear. He said how much he loved us and cared for us. He told us that he would pray for us as we began this journey together. Then, he looked at Taylor and said, "You look absolutely stunning." Then, he turned to John and said, "John, you look....well... I know you tried."

We thought that was such a funny moment and were thankful for a moment of humor to begin our lives as husband and wife!

I'm an Atlanta wedding photographer who takes soulful, quirky and honest photos ...

I'm also an adventurous traveler and all-round nerd. I love to hike with my beagle/cattle dog Roux and best friend/spouse.

I was born in Atlanta, moved around a lot--30 cities and 5 states--and then came back.

After graduating from the Art Institute of Atlanta, I took a job at asmall newspaper in south Georgia, where I photographedhospital teas, pecan farmers, and beauty queens.

I photographed a biker funeral, death penalty protests andTed Bundy while interning with the Associated Press.

While a photographer for two dailies in Florida, I photographed Ronald Reagan, a train derailment and the dedication of a screened-in porch.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

Elopement Ceremony in Atlanta

My first experience photographing an elopement was loads of fun. Check out these photos from a mid-week elopement that took place at Cator Woolford Gardens off Ponce. I got the call to photograph the event two days in advance.

Academy of Medicine Chinese Tea Ceremony

According to the Reverend Kim Jackson, Episcopal priest, Liz and George's Historic Academy of Medicine wedding was the most diverse she had ever seen. Liz, from China, and George, from England, met while working on PhD.s in engineering at Georgia Tech. George’s mother, originally from Japan, and his father from England, along with Liz's family from China joined friends from both countries, from Eastern Europe and from the United States to celebrate Liz and George’s nuptials.

The first official service of the day was the Tea Ceremony, which is the Chinese counterpart of the exchanging of vows. Liz dressed in red, traditional for a Chinese Wedding. Red is considered both powerful and auspicious. During the tea ceremony, Liz and George offered tea to one other and to both sets of parents. The presentation of tea to their parents while they kneeled symbolized their respect and appreciation.

Elizabeth and Bruce's Delightful Academy of Medicine Wedding

Michelle Harrison at MyDreamzEventz helped Elizabeth and Bruce put together a warm and wonderful wedding at the Historic Academy of Medicine. Because Elizabeth and Bruce have an appreciation of photography that is beyond the traditional, I really pushed myself at their wedding to work more in a style that is truly my own. I have always been a street photographer at heart, and so I find myself bringing more and more of that street photography ethic to my wedding and event photography. I am surprised and delighted when my clients really "get" what I'm doing. Thanks, Liz and Bruce!

Lauren and Adam's Higdon House Wedding (Greensboro, Georgia)

Our first experience photographing a wedding at the Higdon House in Greensboro, Georgia, was delightful.

Lauren and Adam's wedding day had just the right amount of quirkiness to it to make it fabulous. The ceremony took place in the lovely outdoor chapel, surrounded by blooming hyacinths and daylilies. Lauren and Adam, both avid music fans, chose a soundtrack for their ceremony that was definitely offbeat. The groom processed from poolside to the strains of "Nothing but a G Thang." The bridesmaids and groomsmen entered from the arbor to the "Harry Potter Intro." And the bride walked down the aisle to "Stellar." They each wrote their own vows and when they read them, laughter and tears welled up in guests and family alike.

The supper buffet fit right in with the Southern charm of the Higdon House -- macaroni and cheese, summer squash, and a down-home twist on chicken cordon blue. The red velvet wedding cake was delicious in a traditional way, but non-traditional in decoration.

After dinner, folks let loose on the dance floor. Special requests from bride and groom and friends ramped up the craziness.
