Halloween Engagement Photos | Alison and Abe

Alison and Abe, who are not especially fond of traditional engagement photos, decided to carve a pumpkin for their Halloween engagement session. I loved the idea, partly because I've never shot a Halloween engagement session and partly because I love to see people enjoying the creative process. The first two photos below show Alison and Abe carving a Jack-O-Lantern, appropriately named Jack, drawn by Alison. The third photo shows the finished product. The last one shows them looking cute in front of some Halloween decorations.

I photographed a biker funeral, death penalty protests andTed Bundy while interning with the Associated Press.

While a photographer for two dailies in Florida, I photographed Ronald Reagan, a train derailment and the dedication of a screened-in porch.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

We've been running a mini engagement session special for those who come to us for the shoot. We live in Pine Lake, a quirky neighborhood full of artists and musicians. Most folks from Atlanta, even those who have lived here forever, have never heard of our little burg, which is sad because Pine Lake rocks. We love it, because of its offbeat, laid back, artsy, neighborly flavor as well as its natural beauty.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to blog about what could be the most awesome engagement safari ever. Thanks Allegra and Jeff for inviting us to document your Mud Crusade Run. A Mud Run, for those who've never had the opportunity to attend or compete in one, consists of a group of people running a course covered with obstacles and pools of mud, barbed wire and fire pits. Here are some of our favorite photos of Allegra and Jeff competing in the Mud Crusade that took place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this Fall.

Lauren and Adam's Urban Atlanta Engagement Safari

Talk about a fun engagement session! We started at the Krog Street Tunnel, moved on to The Corner Tavern for a game of pool, and ended at the King of Pops Concert in the park behind the Masquerade. Lauren drives through the tunnel to work every day. The corner tavern is a favorite hangout. And music is a passion for both Lauren and Adam -- so the concert was a great choice. Everyone enjoyed the popsicles, as well as the music.

Olivia and Steven attended the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal show in January and won our engagement session giveaway. Randi and Kris' Engagement Safari | Piedmont Park

Sharon and I were thrilled to join Randi and Kris on their engagement safari in Piedmont Park last week. They brought three pups, two friends, their wedding planner and her daughter. We were an entourage for the first 10 or 15 minutes. Then we left the three pups at the dog park with the two friends and headed into the park. As soon as Senoirea from Beyond the Diamond Event Planning and Consultancy checked to see we were OK, Sharon and I were left to work our photo magic with Randi and Kris. Had a delightful time with Erica and Jason in Marietta Square a couple of weekends ago on an engagement safari. We were in search of photos that would capture the essence of their relationship. Here's what Erica wrote when she saw the photos:

"Oh my goodness. Wow. I'm blown away. What a fun slideshow! It had me smiling from the very beginning, and even laughing! Every picture just seems to be bursting with how much we enjoy each other. It is so stunningly different from other engagement photo sessions I've seen; so much more natural. What a great style. You really captured Jason like no one else has. I am absolutely beyond delighted."
