Claire and Joshua's Inman Park Engagement

I photograph lots of engagement sessions in my tiny home town of Pine Lake. So it’s super fun to photograph some place different.

Claire and Joshua chose Inman Park as the perfect place for their engagement session. Claire really knew her way around, because she lived in Inman Park overlooking the Belt Line.

Joshua proposed to Claire under a tree in front of Victory Sandwich Bar. So we started their engagement session there.

From the Victory we moved to King of Pops for a one of their awesome popsicles. I indulged in my favorite, chocolate sea salt, which I had to hide in a tree while I took photos of the two on the Belt Line.

I’m happy to report my popsicle was right where I left it when I went back to claim it. It had melted a little, but was still incredibly yummy.

An unexpected life turn took me to Vermont where I fell in love with Bernie Sanders and on to Indiana, where I edited photos for a major daily, and nerded out getting a master’s and PhD.

After teaching photojournalism at colleges and universities in Florida, Indiana and Mississippi, I returned to Atlanta to earn myfifth degree--a Master's of Divinity.

My passion for storytelling with my camera and my interest in religious diversity led my to the field of wedding photojournalism.

I have documented weddings large and small, Unitarian and Pagan, indoors and out, Christian and Muslim, in backyards and in churches. The most exotic wedding I have photographed took place in Mexico and was officiated by aMayan shaman.

When I'm not photographing weddings, portraits or corporate events, I work on personal photo projects, visit friends in amemory-care home, and volunteer at a recovery center.

Sarah and Adam love milkshakes, Scrabble, books, theology, Latin, and each other. So it was only natural that we headed to the Columbia Seminary campus and library for engagement photos. Our first meeting took place at the Landmark Diner Jr where Sarah and Adam shared a mixed flavor shake while Sharon and I shared a chocolate shake.

Halloween Engagement Photos | Alison and Abe

Alison and Abe, who are not especially fond of traditional engagement photos, decided to carve a pumpkin for their Halloween engagement session. I loved the idea, partly because I've never shot a Halloween engagement session and partly because I love to see people enjoying the creative process. The first two photos below show Alison and Abe carving a Jack-O-Lantern, appropriately named Jack, drawn by Alison. The third photo shows the finished product. The last one shows them looking cute in front of some Halloween decorations.

We've been running a mini engagement session special for those who come to us for the shoot. We live in Pine Lake, a quirky neighborhood full of artists and musicians. Most folks from Atlanta, even those who have lived here forever, have never heard of our little burg, which is sad because Pine Lake rocks. We love it, because of its offbeat, laid back, artsy, neighborly flavor as well as its natural beauty.
