Giving Back: Photography for Non-Profits

One of the many saints in my life was my grandmother, known by everyone as Mammaw. As far as I could tell, she lived a life as close to pure love as any mere human could.  "It is more blessed to give than receive," was etched on her heart.

Whenever I live from that place of benevolence, I tell others that the spirit of Mammaw has come over me.

Lately the spirit of Mammaw has encouraged me to share the gift of visual storytelling with those who are doing good in the world. If I lived into her spirit completely, I would charge nothing for my services to nonprofits. I am not that saintly, and neither is my spouse. I give nonprofits a substantial discount, but I do charge something.

If you know a nonprofit who could use some good visual storytelling, have them give me a call. I'll tell them just how generous a discount I give.

The holiday decor at the Emory Conference Center

When I was a kid I loved helping my Mom and Dad decorate our Christmas tree. The tree was always artificial--green with plastic needles. (The story behind our fake tree was that one year the real tree in our house shed all its needles less than 24 hours before the big day.)

We covered our tree with colored glass ornaments and a variety of tiny sleds, bells and angels and, of course, silver tinsel. I loved throwing the tinsel on the tree, even though it was quite difficult to keep if from sticking together in clumps. I don't see much of that silver tinsel these days. Wonder if that's why.

Now, I get my fill of Christmas cheer elsewhere, like the Emory Conference Center, for example.

I had the pleasure of photographing their holiday decorations just last week. Here are a few of my favorites.

What's a photographer to do when confronted with this much cuteness? 

Roll with it. Have fun. Let her have fun. Let her parents have fun. And capture all the cuteness bubbling forth.

Your wedding album is ready, Alex and Esther

Aside from the actual wedding day, the most exciting part of working with wedding couples is when their album arrives.

We received Alex and Esther's album  today.  Yeah!

They chose our signature eco-friendly album with a cover made from handmade paper. Thanks to Esther's quick response time to our pre-design, we will be able to deliver their album less than four months from their wedding date. 

One of the great things about our eco-friendly album is that it lays flat when open. That way we can design across the middle of a spread without having to worry about something getting lost in "the gutter."

When couples ask how long it will take to get their album, my answer is always, "It depends." 

I deliver a pre-designed album at a Premier Party, which occurs 6-8 weeks after your wedding, sometimes a little sooner. Then the ball is your court.

You wedding album design is uploaded to an online site where you can review the spreads and make suggestions for changes.

The sooner you respond to the design, the sooner we can create an album design that you love.

And once you've approved the design, I can send in the order.

Alex and Esther's eco-friendly album arrived at our house today and we love it. Now we can't wait to hear what they think.

We'll be sending it their way tomorrow!

New website photos for Three Sisters Catering.

Kate and Molly Holway, Three Sisters Catering, have turned to Kelly Treadway,  Event Curious, to update their website.

We're delighted that they then turned to us to create the photographs that will bring their new site to life ... real life.

Wheelchair Handball Georgia State Championship

Thanks to Tommie Storms, the founder of the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs, for asking me to photograph the 2016 Wheelchair Handball championships in Henry County, Georgia.

The tournament took place at the J.P. Moseley Recreation Center, Stockbridge, GA. 

Students with a variety of physical disabilities competed for the title of state champions.  

Wolverines vs the Heat in round one. The Heat moved on to the finals.

The semifinals featured the  WGA Wolverines vs. Gwinnett Heat on one court and the DeKalb Silver Streaks vs. Houston Sharks on the other.

The Wolverines vs The Heat games went into double overtime, ending with a shootout.

The Heat celebrate after their overtime win.

The Silver Streaks vs The Sharks. The Sharks moved on to the finals.

The Silver Streaks gave The Sharks a run for their money.

The Sharks and the Heat faced each other in the finals, with the Sharks coming out on top 10-4.

The Houston Sharks took home the championship trophy.

Three Sisters Catering wows the crowd at 433 Bishop's Grand Opening

Those who joined Kate (above) and Molly Holway, the staff and crew of Three Sisters Catering for the grand opening luncheon at 433 Bishop certainly dined well.

The banquet that chef brothers Simon and Matthew prepared for us included: tuna tartare, lamb chops, homemade flat bread with pimento cheese dip, crab salad on bruschetta, turkey confit risotto, beef wellington, and a passionfruit custard with berries that Sharon labeled one of the top five desserts of all time.

Sharon and I were delighted to dine with some of the best wedding planners in Atlanta.
